If you have reached that place where you have used every product ever manufactured for hair growth and still no positive outcome, then you are not alone. Growing up I had this huge mane of hair and would often experience strangers asking me if it was my hair. And then all of a sudden, my hair just seem to keep disappearing rather than growing. And after trying several products suggested by friends and families, I finally gave up.
Earlier in the year, I met a dear friend with this gorgeous big hair and I was awed. I remembered asking her ‘can you please tell me the secret of your hair?’. She had responded with a laugh that almost got me mad at her and her overly fine hair (chuckles). And then she said, ‘Mae, nothing extra ordinary just couple of natural products and being consistent at it’. That got me thinking and then I began to do a lot of research on this. Today, just a look at my hair, you’d be swooning.
So today I decided to share this simple natural ingredients with you. I hope they do as amazing to your hair as they did for mine.
1. You are what you eat
I am sure you have heard this countless times before, but it does not change its truth. The truth is in order to have thick hair, it is essential to eat foods that are high in healthy fats. Foods such as avocados, pumpkin seeds, coconut oil, and walnuts are essential to keeping your hair healthy. In addition, consuming vitamin A and vitamin C can help the collagen production in your hair. Lastly, eating foods that are high in protein are essential for keeping your hair strong and preventing breakage and split ends.
2. Invest only in Natural Shampoo and Conditioner
Buying and using the regular shampoo and conditioner might seem cheap but they are in no way health. There is a chemical typically found in shampoos and conditioners called DEA or diethanolamine. According to Livestock, a health-centered company, “By reacting with nitrites found in cosmetics as anti-corrosive agents, DEA compounds can potentially form nitrosamines, which the International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies as a possible human carcinogen despite its bacteria-busting properties, formaldehyde, an occasional shampoo ingredient, is also a known carcinogen that can irritate your skin, eyes and respiratory system”.
These chemicals are not only potentially harmful, they can also strip down your hair color and cause unwanted side effects such as frizzing, due to the damage that has been caused to your hair. So take time out to invest in natural base shampoo and conditioners, your hair will thank you for it.
3. Avoid Hair Heating
I can almost hear someone saying ‘here we go again’ (chuckles), but this isn’t just another age long myth. With the right products, you truly do not need to take an iron to your hair on a daily basis. Flattening irons can heat up to 400 degrees and the contact of this temperature severely drying. That said, you should try using heat on your hair sparingly. Instead of putting heat to your hair, I recommend using natural beauty balms.
4. Invest in only Natural Hair Protectants
If you prefer to style your hair with heat, a natural hair protectant is essential to shield your hair from the harsh temperatures. My favorite natural and vegan protectant is Giovanni’s 2 Chic Avocado and Olive Oil. All you have to do is spray your hair before you style and the superfood-infused spray will help your hair stand up to the heat, while moisturizing and nourishing it at the same time.
5. Give Your Hair a Break
Just as every human end up breaking down when there is a prolong period of unrest, the same applies to our hair. A little pulling here and a little fixing then and most of our hair is gone. It’s perfectly alright sometimes to just let your hair rest by taking a little time away from fixing and weaving.
The foods we eat to the natural rhythm of our hormones plays a major role in every part of our body and well-being. These natural tips will never leave you standing in the middle of the isle at your local drugstore wondering what the ingredients will do once they reach the inside of your body.
Using natural products is all about recognizing the real ingredients that your body needs to flourish. And then feeding these ingredients to your body on both the inside and the out. And above all else they help you achieve a hair growth that looks almost like magic
