Regardless of our tribes and skin, one thing we all have in common is damaged hair. Our challenges with our hair often comes up as seasons change. Managing a damaged hair can be stressful, because you end up trying several things before stumbling on one that eventually works. This is why I have decided to share my natural hair secrets over the years. I hope they help with your hair as they have helped with mine.
Here are 10 Natural hair mask I have tried and recommended for others for several years now:
1. Aloe Vera Gel and Olive Oil Mask
Aloe vera gel is one of the best natural medicines for hair, skin and health in general.
To make this hair mask, take four to five tablespoons of aloe vera pulp, one tablespoon of olive oil, and egg yolk. Apply it to your dry and brittle hair and let it be for half an hour. Wash it off with cold water. You can do this once every week till your hair gets better.
2. Honey and Banana Mask
This hair mask works for those whose hair has been damaged due to hot tools or bleaching.
Mash a ripe banana and mix it with a tablespoon of raw honey. Apply this to your scalp and hair. Keep it for half an hour and then wash your hair with lukewarm water. Shampoo as usual. Repeat this treatment once a week for great results. The ingredients act as natural moisturizers and make your hair soft.
3. Milk and Honey Mask
Milk and honey, when used together as a mask, work wonders on brittle and damaged hair. Both the ingredients restore the vitality of the hair.
To apply this hair mask, mix two teaspoons of honey with two cups of whole milk. Wash your hair as you normally do and rinse your hair with this mixture. Put on a shower cap and let it be for 15 minutes. Then, wash it off with plain water.
4. Vinegar and Yogurt
This is again an excellent treatment for oily and damaged hair and helps in removing excess oil production from the scalp.
All you need to do is whisk a teaspoon of vinegar in half a cup of yogurt. You can also add a teaspoon of honey for effective results. Apply this mask to your scalp and hair, keep it on for half an hour, and then rinse it off.
5. Avocado and Mayonnaise
Well, this hair mask might sound like a smoothie to you, but when you apply it to your hair, the results will give the professional conditioners a run for their money. Since mayonnaise is made up of egg and oil, when applied to hair, it adds moisture and prevents further damage. Avocado is rich in fat, and it makes your hair much softer and smoother.
To apply this hair mask, mash half an avocado and mix it with two tablespoons of mayonnaise. Apply this to your hair, especially at the ends. Keep it on for 20 minutes and then wash it with a mild shampoo.
6. Almond Oil, Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar
If you’re struggling with extremely dry hair and split ends, here’s an excellent solution.
Take a small bowl, and mix two tablespoons of honey, a tablespoon of almond oil, and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Mix all the ingredients well and apply it to your scalp till the lengths of your hair. Focus more on the damaged ends. Keep the mask for half an hour and then wash it off with a mild shampoo. Honey acts as a natural conditioner, so it’s ok if you skip conditioning.
Repeat this procedure once in 15 days and soon, you’ll notice the results. But before you try this treatment, it is better to trim your hair and get rid of split ends.
7. Jojoba Oil Mask
Massaging jojoba oil regularly to your scalp promotes blood circulation and also adds moisture to the hair and scalp. Apply it regularly an hour before you wash your hair.
8. Egg and Mayonnaise Mask
This recipe works well to defrizz your hair.
To make this, separate the yolk of two eggs from their whites and then, whisk the yolks with a tablespoon of mayonnaise. Apply this hair mask to your hair and let it sit for half an hour. Wash it off with a mild shampoo.
